Saint Cecilia Choir (8:30am Sunday Choir)

St. Cecilia Choir (8:30am) began rehearsal on Wednesday, September 15 at 5:15pm, and will sing for the first time on Sunday, September 26 at 8:30am Mass. Help is needed in all voice parts; prospective members should contact the Director of Music (see below) for more information.

The St. Cecilia Choir is a new choral group at the Cathedral which helps lead singing at the 8:30am Mass, usually celebrated by our diocesan Bishop, the Most Reverend Steven J. Raica. It provides a quality choral experience with rehearsal and repertoire demands less than that of Cathedral Choir. All the same, it strives to model the high standard directed by the Second Vatican Council (cf., Sacrosanctum concilium, 114). Repertoire will initially focus on harmonized hymns and psalmody, with a possibility for some more elaborate choral music in the more festive times of the year.

Because this is a new ensemble, prospective members might wish to suggest rehearsal times: our goal is to allow as many singers as possible (from middle-school age through adults) to sing in this choral ensemble. Singers should expect:

  • Regular rehearsals (time TBD; possibly weekly, bi-weekly, or in a brief-weekly/long-once-a-month model);
  • Sunday Sung Mass at 8:30am, with 8:00am “call time”.
  • Scores/binders will be provided, along with practice aids, as needed.
  • Because this choir has weekly performing responsibilities, singers should have basic musical ability (ability to match pitch, etc.) and see participation in this group as an apostolate which assists our Bishop’s liturgical aims for the entire diocese.

For more information, please contact the Director of Music, Mr. Bruce Ludwick, Jr., at or (205) 251-1279 x107.
