Altar servers at the Cathedral of Saint Paul are chosen from among the boys and young men of the parish, from about the age of First Holy Communion through college.
Training is offered throughout the year so that new boys may learn how to serve and existing servers may advance through the ranks.
All of the boys who serve at the altar are invited to discern whether the Lord may be calling them to the priesthood. We pray regularly for vocations at the Cathedral and recognize that service at the altar is a traditional and privileged path for young men to discover their calling. A recent survey of ordinands has confirmed this, indicating that fully 78% of newly-ordained priests had been altar boys (source).
Any parents who wish to have their son(s) serve at the altar should contact Fr. Jerabek, Pastor & Rector, at fatherjerabek@stpaulsbhm.org.
